Join the #2017TPM Conversation
This year, PTRC is taking a different approach to the plenary session. We will be looking at the future of the profession with a two-day debate Death to Transport Planning, Long Live Transport Planning.
On day one we will discuss the critical challenges which could change the fundamentals of how and why transport planning exists, taking three or four key challenges to carry through to discuss on day two. Day two will take the previous days learning and focus on a discussion around how transport planning can define its own future success; What practical changes do transport planners need to make to not just meet these challenges, but to take advantage of future opportunities?
To kick it all off, we want you to discuss what the future of transport planning looks like during two #2017TPM Twitter Contests, with two pairs of tickets to #2017TPM up for grabs!
In order to enter, all you have to do is follow @PTRC_UK on Twitter and retweet the contest information. Additional entries will be placed for answering the below questions, including #2017TPM:
From 8 May – 15 May tell us what are the current future challenges that you think are facing the industry? These are not ‘business as usual’ challenges, such as funding or politics; these are things which could change the fundamentals of how and why we do transport planning.
From 17 May – 26 May think about what the future of transport planning looks like to you. How can the transport planning industry take charge of its own future? Are there any challenges that could be changed into opportunities? What will the skills of the transport planner of the future need?
Get your thinking caps on because the prize will be awarded to the most creative answers. To get your minds spinning and jolt some creativity, we recommend that you read James Gleaves excellent piece Why are transport planners still here? the post that this debate sprang from. Winners will be announced within five working days of the closing date for each contest.
